Welcome to the Leon Štukelj International School website.

Leon Štukelj International School Maribor is a Candidate School* for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Leon Štukelj International School Maribor believes is important for our students.

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Meet the Principal

Welcome to Leon Štukelj Internation School Maribor.

We focus on caring and supportive relationships that aid the development of each child’s learning through meaningful dialogue and confidence-building. Our students are creative and aspirational, our teachers are committed to academic excellence and our community is supportive of our endeavours to give our children the very best in education.

Our school values the range of learning, carefully crafting opportunities for students to expand their learning beyond the formal curriculum. Our environment is designed to promote active, collaborative, and interactive hands-on learning. Our dedicated staff strive to engage each of our students in their learning journey. It is a privilege for us to support our students as they continue to acquire confidence and develop their potential as learners. Students have the opportunity to develop their confidence and refine the skills which will continue to serve them long after graduation.

THE SCHOOL AREA

The school is situated in a quiet neighbourhood of the Maribor district of Nova vas, which lies at the foot of Pohorje Hill. Different sports facilities around the school provide many opportunities for sports enthusiasts. The students can play basketball and football outside or exercise in a newly renovated gymnasium. In the immediate vicinity, there is a skate park and a large playground. The distance to the city centre is approximately 10 minutes.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Leon Štukelj International School offers students a diverse assortment of extracurricular activities that inspire participants to develop new skills, discover and nurture individual interests and talents and share intercultural perspectives while fostering new social networks and friendships. Some activities take place in the morning before the classes, or in the afternoon, as a part of the Afternoon Programme.

Our youngest students can choose from: Yoga, Hiking, Waking up with sport, Gimnastic, Ball games, Cheerleading, Logic Monster, Science Club, Children’s Choir, Dance Club,  Art Club, Puppets, Chess Club, Book Club and  Reading Badge.

Older students can choose from Robotics, Reading Badge, Tutors, Photography Club, School Radio, School Newspaper, Maths Club, English Club, Etwinning,  Football, Basketball, Volleyball and Karate.

Maribor is the administrative, economic, educational, health, cultural, sports and tourist centre of the North-Eastern part of Slovenia. It lies on the banks of the Drava River at the foot of Pohorje and is the second-largest Slovenian city with almost one hundred thousand inhabitants. It has a moderate climate with average higher summer temperatures of around 21.4 °C  (in July and August) and average lower winter temperatures of around 0,5 (in January). The average annual rainfall is 1050 mm, there are 266 sunny days on average.

Maribor is a safe city. Slovenia made it among the 10 safest countries in the world and is the safest country for children according to research in 2018.
Slovenes constitute over 80% of the population of Slovenia.  A huge number of the population belongs to the Catholic Church making it the largest religious group in the country. But there are also members of other nations and religions who have their own cultural and religious organizations in Maribor.
Maribor is located along the Drava River, surrounded by the green forests of Pohorje and picturesque wine-growing hills.
