MYP 1-4 students visited the National Museum of Slovenia and the House of Illusions on Friday, January 30th. We started the day with a guided tour of the National Museum, where we first visited a small room containing an Egyptian mummy, the only one in Slovenian possession. Students were very eager to find out more about Egyptian history, their rituals, and the process of mummification. After that, we continued chronologically from the beginning of human history, discovering life in the prehistoric era. We looked at different skulls of our Neanderthal ancestors and saw the oldest instrument found in the entire world: a flute made out of a cave bear bone.
The tour went through many eras of our past; we spent some time learning about the Ljubljana Marshes and then explored the meaning of the Vače Situla. Students even had the chance to hold a replica of a metal medieval sword and dress in the clothes of a Roman. The second part of the day was spent at the House of Illusions located in Kongresni trg. Students started the tour with a 10-station game, where they had one minute to finish simple cognitive and motor tasks. They had plenty of fun. The House of Illusions was an overall great success because students really enjoyed the interactivity of the illusions displayed, and we took many funny photos there as well.
